The Profile 900 line is the expression of an idea: create an acoustic loudspeaker whose function is immediately apparent. To pursue the superfluous, remove all unnecessary visual  elements that render the object aggressive or intruding, lean towards a formal simplicity for  each detail, each curve seems organic rather than drawn… this is the only possible way to  create in the end a loudspeaker that easily integrates just as surely as it carries a strong  personality. But this only becomes possible when technology and aesthetics have become one,  then they have consumed and absorbed their own restrictions. Profile 900 is above all a high performance loudspeaker line, which cannot allow even the smallest concession to  aesthetics. It is this challenge, the result of two years of hard work in collaboration with a design agency which motivated Profile to evolve towards new technological solutions never  seen in this segment. Invent a new manufacturing process and adopt a resolute attitude to  achieve the impossible, these are the keys to the Profile 900 project. Breaking the limits is the only possible way to innovation.

Technologic perfection, shape perfection

For Profile, the cabinetwork was created to make the most of Focal speakers. No vibration, no  internal resonance, extreme rigidity… The curved  shapes of the sides, the absence of parallel partitions and the continually changing sections of the speakers give its visual identity to the loudspeaker in which the appearance of stationary  waves have been done away with. Based on a propeller blade, Profile offers perfect shapes to  eliminate the constraints linked to the acoustic loudspeaker at  the source. The side panels, obtained by curving 6 layers of MDF are highly rigid and provide an unbreakable barrier  against vibrations. Likewise, the sophisticated lines of the fabric covers are not only an  element of protection, but have been integrated during the development of the speaker to load the tweeter and should be kept in place to ensure optimum performance. All these choices are above all guided by the search of maximum performance before being an aesthetic concern, which makes the perception of the loudspeaker obvious in its simplicity.

The curved sides are joined to the back on a true backbone, while numerous internal  reinforcements improve the structural strength  of the entire structure. The shape, which is continually changing in height, eliminates the  resonance modes and internal stationary waves which may arise.	The aluminium tweeter support gives Profile a strong visual identity. As it is also a very heavy mechanical piece, it eliminates vibrations and enables assembly through the interior of the speaker without any visible screw.

Profile’s clear and aesthetic lines were not our only concern: a Focal loudspeaker is above all a world-recognized sound quality. The most  advanced technologies are an essential part of Profile 900. The aluminum/magnesium inverted dome tweeter is born from the  technological heritage of the pure Beryllium dome created for our Utopia range, and provides the highest behavior quality. Able to reach  more than 30kHz without any problems or any resonance, thanks to optimum damping, this tweeter also benefits from a highly sophisticated design (Poron® surround, tuned cavity, new dome design, die-cast Zamac chassis), which optimizes its response to the cut-off neighborhood frequency, with very low distortion and resonance frequencies. The result of all this: a tweeter which plays on a very low frequency (2600Hz) so that it relays as quickly as possible with the midrange for maximum definition and dynamics. Likewise, the  composite “W” sandwich, invented by Focal in 1995 for the first Grande Utopia was endowed with a performance without equivalent, at least 20 times superior to the most sophisticated, advanced competitive technologies. This technology is the essential key to definition and precision of our loudspeakers. After many successive developments, Profile benefits from its ultimate evolution. Sheets of glass become denser, layers of foam become more variable… we are able to fine-tune the response curve of each drive-unit as we favor mass, rigidity or damping, depending on the frequency range we wish to recreate, while at the same time we maintain a perfect, piston-like action. All Profile drivers are manufactured by Focal in Saint-Etienne: this is the sole guarantee for us to master all the steps of design, prototype,  manufacturing and quality control of this essential component.
