SYSTEM 270

271 LR and 273 C Front Channel Speakers
The driver array of the 271 LR front channel and the 273 C center channel speakers have been matched to provide a seamless transition between the critical front three channels.

The cones of the low-frequency and midrange drivers use a new injection molded polymer graphite material that exhibits outstanding linearity and low mass. These drivers, working in conjunction with the very linear silk dome tweeter, provide outstanding high fidelity reproduction. In addition, the tweeter is rigidly mounted into a precisely machined aluminum sub-baffle to optimize its dispersion and eliminate undesirable resonances.

The 273 C features three new proprietary Multi-Stage Timbre Controls. They include a continuously variable High Frequency Level control, a Midrange Presence compensation, and a Boundary Effect compensation switch. They allow unmatched versatility and perfect integration with the left and right front channel speakers.

The High frequency Level control adjusts the high frequency output from the speaker, working similarly to the treble tone control on a conventional preamp, amp or receiver. This allows you to compensate for overly bright soundtracks or punch up a dull soundtrack.

The Midrange Presence switch compensates for the tendency of acoustically "dead" rooms to soften dialog and midrange detail. Overstuffed furniture, thick carpeting and heavy drapes all absorb sound, and midrange frequencies are absorbed the most efficiently. The result can be hard-to-understand dialog and a dull sounding frequency response. Atlantic's unique midrange presence compensation circuitry incorporated in the crossover provides flat in-room response in almost all situations. Should you have a "live" room, there is a bypass position that may be used.

The Boundary Effect switch smoothes the midrange "hump" in the speaker's frequency response that arises when you place a center channel speaker on top of a TV. The sound that reflects off the TV screen causes this anomaly in the frequency response that increases bass and muffles the midrange reproduction of the speaker. Activating Atlantic's proprietary circuit corrects this problem and allows much more accurate midrange response. Again, there is a bypass position for applications where the speaker is not placed on top of a TV.

Finally, to further optimize performance, the center channel is fitted with an adjustable base that aims the speaker at the listening position.

274 SR Surround Speakers
The 274 SR surround speakers are timbre-matched to the front channel speakers and optimized for use with all multi-channel digital surround formats. They use an asymmetrically oriented dipolar configuration to create a convincing sense of space and ambience. Two 4-1/2" injection molded polymer graphite woofers and two 3/4" silk dome tweeters are mounted on adjacent sides of each dipole cabinet. The driver arrays are phase inverted to
provide wide, spacious imaging while still maintaining distinct right and left surround localization. The surround speakers can be easily mounted on the wall, on a shelf, on a speaker stand, or recessed into a wall with an optional kit.

272 PBM Powered Subwoofer
The 272 PBM powered subwoofer incorporates a specially designed 225 watt high current all-discrete amplifier. It employs a 12" long throw driver with a damped composite cone and an enormous motor assembly. The amplifier, driver voice coil characteristics, and cabinet dimensions were optimized to work together to provide deep, highly defined bass at very low frequencies. The enclosure is a sealed, acoustic suspension design with very rigid construction to prevent undesirable cabinet resonances. This subwoofer features automatic standby operation (with bypass), an 18 dB/octave low-pass filter, and high-pass inputs and outputs as well as line level inputs and outputs. An absolute phase switch and front panel level control make the 272 PBM very easy to use and set up.

The System 270 is finished in black ash vinyl with optional steel speaker stands available. The surround speakers are also available in a matte white finish with white speaker stands as an option.
